FAQs & More

Below, you'll find the answers to commonly-asked questions. The answers to these questions can also be found on our Over The Edge event page, along with other helpful event information and campaign progress!

What is the fundraising deadline?

Event Day is the official fundraising deadline. If you haven’t quite met your target by Event Day, you can contact your event manager to hold your rappel spot with a credit card.

What should I wear to the event?

Dress comfortably! Do not wear overly loose or baggy clothing, or clothing with long drawstrings. Wear soft-soled, close-toed shoes or sneakers.

What is the minimum age requirement to rappel?

Anyone can participate in an Over The Edge event. People in their 80s and 90s rappel! The only restriction is that anyone under the age of 18 requires a parent or guardian signature on the legal waiver.

Do I need to have experience to participate?

Not at all! Check out our Over the Edge event page to see what to expect on Event Day! This page will tell you everything you need to know about the process from registration to the roof and back down again!

Can I wear a costume?

Costumes are allowed but are subject to the same limitations as baggy clothing. Every attempt will be made to safely fit costumes around harnesses and helmets. As with shorts, it is ultimately the decision of the Site Safety Supervisor. Stringy, loose, or excessive costumes must be avoided. Head pieces that will not accommodate a helmet, obscure the vision, or are notably large or heavy will rarely be allowed.

What is the minimum/maximum weight to rappel?

Over The Edge’s equipment safety standards require that people must be between 100 and 300 lbs. in order to safely rappel.

What if it rains?

Typically, an event can continue to operate in rain. When rain is so heavy people lose vision or some other unsafe condition exists due to rain, a weather-related delay must be initiated until rain eases enough to continue.

For other inclement weather conditions (i.e. lightning, extreme heat, or high winds) a weather-related delay will also be initiated until conditions are safe for rappelling to continue. OTE technicians, volunteers and event staff will monitor weather conditions closely and continue the rappels when it is safe to do so.
